How Does This Work?

Giveyourbit offers a platform to activate a global community to support your cause; be it to settle bills for a health condition, to support an orphan or a widow, to fund education or the cause of a non-profit, or to support community development projects, Giveyourbit will help you spread the word quickly and surely!

Giveyourbit
...not just a new efficiency, but a whole new level of effectiveness

The seven fundraising categories on the Giveyourbit platform are for three (3) kinds of users or fundraisers; the 'community' fundraiser, the 'corporate' fundraiser and every 'other' fundraiser. Both community and corporate fundraisers are setup for causes relating to sustainable infrastructure development within Nigerian communities, and are based on the collective decisions reached by Nigerians through a special forum and managed by an approved integrity body. Every other fundraiser can be setup by you for yourself, your non-profit or for someone you care about who is in dire need of support, or faced with an insurmountable situation. There are four (4) simple steps to achieving your goal and getting support for your cause:

  1. Setup a Fundraiser: Starting a fundraising campaign requires courage and determination to get solution to a challenging need. Giveyourbit is here to support you all the way to make the ride easier and memorable. Our advice is that you write a detailed but emotive story of the situation you are faced with. Note that a story can be compelling, so you would be required to use between 1500 and 1600 characters to write your story. If you truly want support from many, your story must be more than just a few words asking their support; your story must be emotive and compelling enough to arouse a following, and to garner a crowd of supporters. State the details step by step; how the problem was discovered, what the current situation is, what has been happening, and the steps that need to be taken. Ensure that you are specific about how much money is required, what the money will be used for and how the money will be dispensed to make an impact in your life or the life of your loved one, or the community.

You will be required to complete a form; answer some questions and enter some details about the fundraising cause and who or what you are raising money for. Once these are done, you can click on the submit button and your fundraising campaign will become active. However, your fundraiser will only display on the homepage and category pages based on admin approval. You can set up your fundraiser all  by yourself, but we advise that you get two (2) other people as part of your fundraising team leads, to work with you to promote your cause and drive your fundraising campaign to achieve success. The three (3) fundraising team members include the Beneficiary, the Lead Supporter and the Fund Manager. You can decide to be all of these all by yourself, but do note that you would have a better chance at success, and your fundraiser page will appear more credible if you have team members other than yourself. You will receive a confirmation email when you create a fundraiser, and your other two (2) fundraising team leads will receive a link to create their login credentials to give them access to their own private dashboards. The Fund Manager has to be a person approved by the Beneficiary, and the Beneficiary has the leverage to contact Giveyourbit to cut the Fund Manager's access if it becomes necessary. Note that Giveyourbit validates the cases you put up and would terminate your fundraiser if confirmed to be invalid. For such occurrences, Giveyourbit will solicit the suggestions of the online community to decide which existing fundraisers to transfer the funds already donated.

If you are not the Beneficiary, be sure to have the consent and information of the Beneficiary. You will need to enter the amount you intend to raise and an appropriate end date for the campaign. Good photos and videos can be uploaded to the fundraiser page 'case updates' section to update visitors of progress made. You can visit our Fundraising Suggestions page for more ideas for your fundraising campaign.

The fundraising team will be made up of the following:

Lead Supporter: This is the person that creates the fundraiser; this may be the Beneficiary or may be creating the fundraiser on behalf of the Beneficiary. The Lead Supporter must be someone who is passionate about pursuing the success of the fundraiser on behalf of the Beneficiary. In the case of a 'Corporate' fundraiser, this entity is referred to as the Lead Sponsor; an organization that sets up and manages a fundraising campaign for infrastructure developement projects.

Supporters: These are the people who help share the details and assist with soliciting for support for the fundraising cause through all possible media; social media and otherwise. Supporters are able to sign up and share the fundraiser with their friends, email contacts and social media networks. Anyone who intends to be a supporter of a fundraising campaign will visit the fundraiser page and click on 'Become a Supporter'.
Adding just one supporter can increase your fundraising page views by a great percentage.

Beneficiary: This is the person for whom the fundraiser is created. This person can setup the fundraiser, or the fundraiser can be setup on their behalf. If the Beneficiary is capable, he/she should contribute to the efforts of promoting the fundraiser; this would greatly help the fundraising cause.

Fund manager: This is the person assigned by the beneficiary to be contacted by Giveyourbit to ask for instruction to release the fundraiser donations. This person must be a Nigerian and should also be a supporter of the fundraiser. Be sure that this person's relationship with the beneficiary will be confirmed before the donation is released to the person. The Beneficiary choice of a Fund Manager must be someone that can be trusted with the funds or management of the funds towards the cause on behalf of the Beneficiary.

Project Champion: This is the entity that manages causes that involves infrastructure development, under Community and Corporate fundraisers; this entity coordinates the entire project, from creating the plan, to executing, managing and maintaining the project and infrastructure.

Guidance personnel: This is the person that will be assigned by Giveyourbit to a fundraising campaign to offer advice and guidance on the best practises to get the most from the campaign. This person is ready at all times to respond through email and phone calls.
  2. Spread the word to family, friends and to the world: Setting up a fundraiser is like setting up a business or creating a product. For people to patronise your business or use your product, you will have to promote, sell and market it, so that people can know and access it. Crowdfunding is not different; the impact and result of your fundraising campaign will be largely based on the network and community of supporters that you garner. So be sure to spread the word about your cause early and consistently using friends and family members through email and social media: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram etc. You can visit our Leveraging Social Media page for ideas to maximize social media in your fundraising campaign.

You can even approach strangers. Our suggestion is, use paper cuts. On the paper cuts, have the title of your fundraiser, an emotionally catchy phrase stating the help that you need. Then include 'Please visit www.giveyourbit.com and search for 233', assuming 233 is the case number of your fundraiser. You can distribute this paper cuts to strangers everywhere you go. Be sure that some people will trash it the moment you turn away, but there are a number that would actually visit your page and be sympathetic to your cause. When people start donating to your cause, it is important to also post updates of the case in order to keep them informed of progress made.

Giveyourbit offers mobile advantage, so donating to a cause can be as easy as dialling a USSD code on your mobile phone. Card payment option and international payments are also available.
  3. Get prayers, hugs and donations: In times of need, a simple prayer can offer hope and encouragement, a hug can signify that one is not alone and donations can provide for timely bill settlements that can progress the cause quicker towards accomplishing the goal. How and when the money should be dispersed will be chosen by the Fund Manager, this way, the Beneficiary will be able to get the help they need at the right time.

Our payment method is quick and quite easy. We do charge a small fee in order to remain operational to offer you a good service. You can visit Our Fees page to learn more about our fees.

We are committed to sending you whatever you have raised, not considering the amount of your goal, and you are able to monitor your donations; number of donations, total donation and other reports.
  4. Contact our guidance personnel to guide you in making the best of your fundraising campaign: We understand that you may not know the best ways to promote and spread the word about your fundraising campaign; this is why we assign guidance personnel to each fundraising campaign. You will have someone to contact to ask questions and from whom to seek advice to make the best and reach a greater network of supporters for your campaign. They are ready at all times to assist you because they truly care about putting a smile on your face.
